Pasadena, CA is one of the many independent communities that make up the greater Los Angeles metro area. Almost 150,000 Californians call Pasadena home. The climate is mild, with day time highs averaging in the mid-70's. Even the winters in this California city are sunny and pleasant. Snow has fallen in Pasadena only twice in its history. This California city is the proud home of annual Tournament of Roses parade. Prices for two bedroom homes for sale in Pasadena start around $625,000 and three bedroom homes for sale average $850,000 and up. The Pasadena real estate market does reward the persistent shopper, as smaller three bedroom homes can be found with asking prices not much higher than a two bedroom home.

Altadena is a community to the north of central Pasadena. Asking prices for two bedroom homes here tend to be less expensive than in the south, especially in the neighborhoods around Mountain View Cemetery and West Altadena Drive. More luxurious and expensive homes can be found in the Eaton Canyon Park area.

In South Pasadena, buyers can find two bedroom condo dwellings for just under $400,000. The prices for single family homes for sale in South Pasadena are similar to those found in Pasadena. High end buyers will find large homes with extensive grounds along Hillside Road and south of Route 66 in the Via del Ray neighborhood.

Alhambra real estate tends to give the buyer more bang for the buck than elsewhere in Pasadena. Two bedroom homes for sale average just under $500,000, and for those interested in condo living, two bedroom units start at $350,000.

Schools in Pasadena, California

The Pasadena Unified School District has an enrollment of over 20,000 students. 24 elementary schools dot the greater Pasadena area, as well as three middle schools and four high schools. South Pasadena has its own unified school district with three elementary schools, a middle school and a high school. Notable private schools include the Polytechnic School, which admits students from kindergarten to twelfth grade and the Chandler School, which has classes for children up to middle school. Colleges in Pasadena include the California Institute of Technology, the Fuller Theological Seminary, and the Art Center College of Design.

Pasadena Businesses

Major employers in Pasadena include the California Institute of Technology, the Jet Propulsion Laboratory and Bank of America. Two districts form the core of business activity in central Pasadena. The Playhouse district hosts a large number of shops and stores related to home furnishings and design. South Lake Avenue district is home to upscale shops and restaurants.
